Another one that’s long gone, with no bar in its place, I got me a stalker while hunting it down and I’d only been in Athens 5 minutes!! In its absence I consulted a Greek colleague who provided a few alternatives, my favourite being Baba Au Rum, conveniently just around the corner from my hotel! They definitely serve the drink for me – The World Traveller, but the Spicy Baba was a more obvious choice of signature. Having befriended barman Elias I went back the following night for The World Traveller, both drinks were good, the Baba just edged it for me though, they certainly know what they’re doing here. Not only did I leave with Greek Island recommendations, but I also helped myself to a souvenir menu – don’t tell Elias!
Baba Au Rum would definitely be my choice, for both the cocktails and the attentive service, but with an abundance of rooftop bars in the city you can’t fail to recommend one of those, especially with that Acropolis view! The best in my opinion is A for Athens and it was certainly popular, standing room only! It also managed to provide a signature – A for Athens Sour (appropriately pink). The service was far less personal though, recommended purely for the views and open air, especially in the Athens heat!
