70. Bardeaux – Queenstown, New Zealand

Cocktail – Swallow Dive

honey vodka, chambord, lime, raspberries

Date visited: February 2019

Tucked away down a back lane in Queenstown, away from the backpacker party bars, Bardeaux is for the discerning drinker. Scotland meets New Zealand with their extensive Whisky & Wine back bar, other tastes are catered for, but I wouldn’t be ordering the honey vodka and Chambord.

We got there early enough for the bar stools (my preference), but the fireside leather sofas were already taken, even in summer! I kept to the fireside theme though with my toasted marshmallow Old Fashioned, while my mother enjoyed a Negroni, which at least matched the colour of the cocktail in Allan’s book.

We stuck to the whisky, and the barrel aged gin, and left the wine for the following day’s wine tours.
