Well this one didn’t start so well! I chose to base myself on Nadi so I could day trip to different islands, and Beachcomber was obviously my priority. I booked the tour but they gave me the wrong pick up time so the boat nearly left without me! After several frantic phone calls and hailing a taxi, they held the boat for me – phew. It was worth the stress though, and I soon relaxed once my feet touched the sand.
There was no “Illusion” on the menu, but bartender Epa knew it, they used to serve it as a slushie but it left the menu about two years prior. Epa had clocked up five years when I visited, so not quite as far back as the book. Everyone in Fiji is super friendly and Epa was no exception, we chatted and giggled, while ABBA played in the background. It wasn’t very busy but we had our own little beach party.
You can stay on the island with backpacker accommodation options, but I departed with the boat. Wilson was awaiting my arrival on the Castaway Island.
