It’s 2008 and with only two down the quest is far more serious, my cocktail tastebuds have been wetted and I’ve been infected with the travel bug! Next up, a Singapore stopover on the way to Oz. My afternoon at Raffles starts with High Tea, a dress purchase in the Chinese New Year sales and then it’s cocktail time, but in which bar?? The casual one downstairs or the closed lounge bar upstairs? The details are important now and I’m a little better read, what’s that crunching under my feet? Ah yes, monkey nut shells, I remember now – casual bar it is! Unfortunately The Long Bar is the victim of tourism and the Slings are now on tap, not quite the authentic 1910 article then! They even come with souvenir glass available to purchase, tempting but unlikely to survive a round the world trip! Fortunately I chanced upon one 6 years later in a local charity shop.
